Motor vehicle accident claims in Ontario are governed by the Insurance Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. I.8, and the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule – Effective September 1, 2010, O. Reg. 34/10, which provides benefits such as income replacement, medical benefits, and caregiver benefits.

Slip and fall claims may arise under the Occupiers’ Liability Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. O.2, which requires property owners to maintain reasonably safe premises.

In many cases, legal proceedings must be commenced within the time limits established by the Limitations Act, 2002, S.O. 2002, c. 24, Schedule B.
